B. Prabha (Indian, 1933-2001)Untitled (Woman) signed and dated in Devanagari 'B Prabha 1969' lower leftoil on canvas, framed106.5 x 91.5cm (41 15/16 x 36in).Footnotes:Property from the Estate of Robert & Janice ShawProvenanceAcquired from India in the 1970s.Untitled (Woman) is a striking depiction of the female form, executed in Prabha's signature elongated style. Dating from 1969, we are immediately drawn to the woman who is resting her back against a tree trunk and is facing away from the viewer. Her hair is tied neatly in a bun, the cloth covering her is devoid of colour and apart from her necklace and bangles, she is unadorned. She is preoccupied with her own thoughts, and yet appears to be one with nature. The background is particularly impressive given its rarity in Prabha's works. It has been rendered beautifully in greens and yellows and recreates the texture one might find in nature. The painting is a complete triumph as it captures the essence of femininity and is painted with a unique blend of simplicity and sophistication. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: ** VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
