"WILLIAM TURNER OF WALTHAMSTOW (b. 1763 exh.1787-1816), Fair under Fairlop Oak, 1789, signed and dated W. Turner, 1789 (lower left), watercolour 11 1/2 x 16 1/2in (29.2 x 41.9cm). The scene shows a gathering by the Fairlop Oak at Wapping. A Fair was held there on the first Friday in July from the mid eighteenth century onwards. The Fairlop Oak is said to have had a trunk measuring thirty-six feet in girth and spread an area 300 feet in circumference. The Fairlop Oak was accidentally set on fire in 1805, and later blew down in a storm in 1820."

Overall good plus with slightly heavier wear on top edge of crate and edges of Popeye`s cap. 2) Classic dancing Popeye atop finely lithographed house. Overall condition very good plus with typical wear where arms and legs meet body. SIZE: 8-1/2"" h and 9-1/2"" h, respectively.
