Thomas Cruttenden,Yorke A late 17th Century marquetry and walnut month going longcase clock. The square brass dial with cherub spandrels, a silvered chapter ring, seconds dial and calendar aperture, inscribed “Tho. Cruttenden, Yorke, Fecit”. The rising hood, with spoon lock, remnants of original latch and twist turned columns. The trunk and hood with marquetry cherubs, birds, flowers including tulips and scrolls, dial 10" case, 82" high/210cm. Thomas Cruttenden (fl. 1668-1698) was apprecticed to Robt. Seignior on 6 July 1668, he was then passed over to Jno. Fromantle on 5 November 1677. In 1680 he moved to York to establish one of the first important clock workshops in the north of England. He died in 1698.
