Queen’s Own Staffordshire Yeomanry Officer’s 1881 pattern Tunic The full dress uniform of Quartermaster Hon Major Z Cartwright. The lot includes an original photograph of the Major wearing this uniform. Comprising: a scarce example of dark blue melton cloth with scarlet facings to collar and cuffs. Cuffs elaborately decorated with silver lace. Collar with single lace band. Silver cord shoulder straps with Victorian crowned silvered regimental buttons. Rank of post 1901 Crowns indicating Captain. To each breast six plaited silver cord drop loops, these with concealed hook and eye fastening and loop and olivettes fastening. The interior lining is now absent. The silver lace and cord remains bright, but now with some stitching faults, shoulder cords absent. One of two small moth holes not effecting the overall appearance ... Overalls of dark blue cloth, with scarlet line ... Accompanied by: .... Universal pattern mess jacket, dark blue cloth with scarlet silk faced lapels (silk shot). The shoulder straps with Captain rank stars. (Collar badges absent) ... Scarlet waistcoat, mounted with silvered Queen’s crown regimental buttons ... Dark blue waistcoat with leaf embroidered decoration ... Large quantity of family and regimental photographs. All contained in metal uniform storage trunk with name to the lid. Overall GC. (6 items plus photographs)

A George II walnut eight-day longcase clock, Samuel Berry, London, circa 1735, the five pillar rack and bell striking movement with 12 inch brass break-arch dial with calendar aperture and subsidiary seconds dial to the matted centre within an applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers and Arabic five minutes, the angles with cast female mask and foliate scroll spandrels beneath arch with silvered boss signed Samuel Berry, LONDON between dolphin cast mounts, the case with domed caddy and plain frieze to upstand above moulded cornice and three-quarter columns to hood, the trunk with convex throat moulding and break-arch door, on crossbanded plinth base with moulded skirt, 245cm high. Samuel Berry is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as being admiited as an apprentice in 1698, gaining his Freedom of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1705 and working until 1743.

Provenance: Hardy family of Chilham Castle, Kent and thence by descent.

GWR 12" mahogany cased Trunk Clock with fusee movement in original, working condition, ex Templeton station. The dial has been repainted in post 1948 BR-W style and the case bears the ivorine plate `BR-W 4639. The brass bezel is missing but is easily replaced. Complete with winding key and pendulum.
