Los 747

A longcase clock, the 27.5 cm square brass dial with Roman numerals and date aperture, signed John & Henry Pepper, Biggleswade, fitted a 30 hour movement, striking on a bell, in an oak case, 196 cm high See illustration Condition report Report by NG It has a pendulum. Please note that Charterhouse do not guarantee the working condition of any watch or clock. The dial looks a little undersized for the hood, the dial has some sort of lacquer on it, the gilt spandrels have some sort of horrible gilt spray paint on them, the movement is very dirty and sits on a much later seat board, the case has had quite a bit of work done to it, especially in and around by the movement, the blind fret carved decoration above the hood door, is missing a few sections, and the base of the trunk has been severely reduced in height. Now clearly requiring repair, servicing the restoration.

Los 750

A longcase clock, the 30 cm square arched painted dial with Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds and calendar dial, signed Loveday & Son Chelmsford, fitted an eight day movement, striking on a bell, in an oak case, 204 cm high (over finial) See illustration Condition report Report by NG The clock has two weights, pendulum, a key and two winders Report by GH The clock has two different winders, two weights, a trunk key and a pendulum. Glass in hood is cracked. Cracks to wood on either side of the hood and some wood worm holes. Some moulding slightly loose. Other parts of the body with wood worm holes and marks, fading and some possible repairs. Plinth possibly replaced. Clock face generally quite worn, with some old retouched areas and general crazing. Movement appears to have had some work.

Los 753

A longcase clock, the 31 cm square painted dial with Roman numerals, with phase of the moon and calendar dial, signed Wood Macclesfield, fitted an eight day movement striking on a bell, in a mahogany case, 205.5 cm high See illustration Condition report Report by RB The case has had quite a bit of work done to it, with the trunk door slightly warped, and it looks to be quite an amount of re-construction. A pretty painted dial, the phase of the moon with a man-of-war ship, the hood door opens to quite a large fillet of wood, which is within the glazed area of the door, which would lead me to suspect that the dial and case did not start life together, although they do look quite a good fit, and being realistic, the clock is £200-300, the movement is very dirty, it is on a much later seat board, and the cheeks to the case have had various changes, the trunk door has had later hinges, is faded, some of the mouldings have come off and are now lost, and present, it lacks its feet, there is some water damage to the base of the trunk, and slight warping and splitting also. Report Height - 205 cm Width - 59 cm Depth - 27 cm
