A late Victorian mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement having a dead-beat escapement and striking the hours on a gong, the twelve-inch break-arch dial having a raised silvered chapter ring with engraved black Roman numerals, fleur-de-lys half-hour markings and outer Arabic five-minute markings, the matted centre having a subsidiary seconds dial, the arch having a 'strike/silent' dial, with cast-brass c-scroll spandrels to the four corners and dolphin spandrels to the arch and decorative blued steel hands, the mahogany case having a swan-neck pediment with a brass ball-and-spire finial to the centre, canted corners to the hood and trunk, a shaped door and matching raised panel to the base, all standing on bracket feet, height 226cms (inc finial).
Bapt. Roncheti & Co, a Georgian stick barometer: the brass dial engraved with typical barometer markings, Masonic symbols and signed Bapt. Roncheti & Co, Fecit, with a sliding Vernier gauge, the mahogany case having an architectural pediment with a brass finial, canted corners to the trunk and a turned cistern cover to the base, with a visible tube, height 98cms.* Biography Baptista Ronchetti (sometimes Roncheti) is recorded as working in Spear Street, Manchester from 1785 having come from Tavernerio in Italy, before moving to 15 High Street. His son Joshua joined him from Italy, as did his nephew Lewis Casertelli. Until circa 1800 he was also in partnership with Lomas. An early 19th century mahogany longcase clock, the pagoda top over stopped fluted hood columns, concave throat moulding and plain trunk with stop fluted quarter columns, the signed 12 inch brass dial with engraved Roman and Arabic chapter ring and strike silent to the arch, the centre with subsidiary seconds and calendar aperture, the two train weight driven movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on a bell, the plates united by four knopped pillars (the fifth lacking), H.7ft 8in.
