Johann Joachim Kaendler studierte in den kurfürstlichen Menagerien seit Anfang der 1730er Jahre verschiedene Vogelarten nach dem Naturvorbild und modellierte sie mit detailgetreuer Genauigkeit in Porzellan. Die sorgfältige Wiedergabe der Haltung des Tieres und des Federkleides durch Kaendler wird maßgebliches Charakteristikum der Meissener Vogelplastik. Mit dem Japanischen Palais beabsichtigte August der Starke die Errichtung eines Porzellanschlosses, in dem Porzellanvögel und andere Tierplastiken zu Repräsentationszwecken ausgestellt werden.Vgl.
