Will Snow - a George III oak longcase clock, circa 1760/70, the 30 hour skeletal movement striking on a bell, the 10" brass dial with silvered chapter ring, signed Will Snow, 390, date aperture, the hood with blind fretwork and plain pillars, to a plain trunk, weight, pendulum, bell, height 208 cm. William Snow Senior, (1736 - 1795) Padside, Pateley Bridge, is renowned for his skeletal movements whereby any large blank areas of the plates were removed, melted down and reused. He ran a prolific workshop making over one thousand clocks, particularly 30-hour longcase clocks, which were serial numbered. Snow employed many local people in the production of movement parts as piece work, supplementing their farming income during the winter months. Williams sons, William junior and Richard, became clock makers, The family flourished with further generations being in business until the 1900's in Pateley, Ripon and Bradford.
