The top panel to the hood is loose, the seat board is screwed to the cheeks and the trunk door has a very slight warp. The base and plinth have paint lose and knocks. The movement could do with a clean.

A George III oak longcase clock with thirty hour movement striking on a bell via an outside countwheel, the 11-inch square silvered dial with black Roman hour numerals and foliate engraving and inscribed 'Danl Gill RYE', the hood with moulded pediment, glazed door and turned columns, the rectangular trunk door above a plain base and bracket feet, height 214.5cm, with pendulum and weight. Note: Daniel Gill is a recorded Sussex clockmaker. Born in 1759, he worked from his High Street address in Rye between 1798 and 1810.

The IJssel storm barrier at Randstad, completed in 1958, was the first of a series of flood defences that were not finished until 1997.

Out of 125 design submissions, it won for the artist the Pangolin Editions Prize for modelling and lettering, among the first of many awards bestowed on this artist. Only five of these medals were made, one in silver (The Goldsmiths’ Company), one silver-plated (the present specimen) and three in bronze (sold to private clients of the artist). A detailed analysis of the metal in this medal (75.8% silver, 13.1% copper, 9.1% tin) is sold with the lot.
