A vintage leather elephant with raised trunk, approximately 50 cm (h) to tip of trunk.Condition Report: One back leg is somewhat bent out of shape, there are some areas of scuffing / scrape marks, the ears appear to be later replacements, leather is lifting slightly at the edges in areas, approximately 1.75 kg.
C. Hoch of Ashton. A monumental Victorian 8 day drum head longcase regulator, the heavily engineered deadbeat escapement movement with latched maintaining power, the white-painted dial with secondary and hour dials, the case with flame grain mahogany matched veneering, the trunk door with a long glazed panel, displaying the oversized pendulum and single weight. 217 cm high overall x 63 cm overall width. Footnote: A C.Hoch is listed as working in Salford (Manchester) on page 380 in Brian Loomes Watch and Clockmakers of The World, as working C1900Ashton Under Lyme is eleven miles from Salford.Condition report: The movement has been re-bushed and seems to have been done well with oil sink bushesThe movement has been re-gutted recently (?)The case could do with cosmetic spruce up but has no major defectsThe drum head hood in cracked due to shrinkage and has been fixed with glued fabric on the interiorThe seat board is packed up on the cheeks on both sidesNo winding key (that fits) or trunk door key is present.
