A late 18th Century oak longcase clock by Nathaniel Cliff of Hull, the 12ins arched brass dial with brass chapter ring (formerly silvered) with Roman and Arabic numerals, matted dial centre with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture and with strike/silent dial to arch, to the eight day two train movement striking on a bell, contained in oak case banded in mahogany with shaped cresting, with three turned giltwood finials and with turned and fluted pillars to hood, shaped trunk door flanked by fluted canted corners, on plain plinth base, 93ins high (including finials) Note: Nathaniel Clift (also known as Cliff) recorded working in Hull 1784.
A good late 18th Century mahogany longcase clock by James Weston of Lewes, the 12ins arched brass dial with wide silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals and inner calendar dial, the silvered dial centre engraved with leaf scroll ornament and with recessed subsidiary seconds dial and with strike/silent dial to arch, to the eight day two train movement striking on a bell, contained in mahogany case with arched and moulded cornice above blind fret frieze and with turned, fluted and brass stopped columns to hood, figured trunk door with shaped and moulded top flanked by fluted brass stopped quarter columns, the base with raised astragal panel and on double plinth base, 93ins high (including later turned finials) Note: James Weston recorded working as a Clock and Watchmaker and also a Gunsmith in Lewes and died 1779
A George III mahogany cased longcase clock by William Hamilton Whiteburn, the hood having gilt metal eagle surmount and broken swan scroll pediment above glazed door enclosing silvered dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, with key, pendulum and two lead weights, 229cm high CONDITION REPORT: Lot 298 - eagle finial slightly loose, small chips to beading below finial, various light scratches allover from age, hole in wood below dial (behind glazed door so not visible unless door open), 226cm high x 51cm wide x 21cm deep, dial 49cm high x 35cm wide, old knocks to corners of trunk, piece of beading loose to square bas but secure when pushed back into place, split to front left support, split/crack to back right support

MILITARY INTEREST - AN IRON BOUND PAINTED PINE TRUNK named to the front ‘Q.M.S. J. COULTHARD K.S.L.I.’, 71cm wide, 50cm deep, 29cm high. Provenance: Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant J. Coulthard, King’s Shropshire Light Infantry,thence by family descent. Believed to date back to the Great War. A copy of a photograph showing H.R.H. The Prince of Wales with R.Q.M.S. Coulthard (seated front left) and other Members of the Sergeants’ Mess, Royal Military College, Sandhurst, 1935, accompanies the lot.
