A large wooden and metal bound trunk, marked on the front 'E.L. Croslegh, XXIII Sikh Pioneers, Calcutta', with further writing on the top (harder to read). With a metal lining to the interior and carrying handles to each side. Trunk 96cms by 51cms, 44cms high *This trunk appears to have been owned by Lieutenant Colonel Evan Leigh Croslegh, born 1880, educated at Marlborough College, served in South Africa June 1900 - September 1901; joined the Royal Berkshire Regiment from the Militia in 1901 and transferred to the Indian Army in 1903; took part in the Tibet Expedition 1903-04 and was present at the action at Niani and operations at and around Gyantse, May - July 1904; served with the Egypt Expeditionary Force, February - October 1918; Lieutenant Colonel Croslegh retired 1928. His medals were sold by Noonans on the 30th of March 2008. *Condition: It has been well used over the years as you would expect, with various cracks and wear in places over time. Still very solid and heavy.

No. 1A Bouchavesnes area, newspaper cutting etc. Lt. Col. Horsfall served in South Africa 1901-02, MID and DSO during 1917 and killed in action 9th October 1917. The Blue Cloth Helmet, later canvas bucket, tin helmet and magazines pertain to another member of the family who appears to have served during the Second World War.

Thorne, Tiverton an oak longcase clock the thirty-hour duration movement striking the hours on a bell with the eleven-inch square brass dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and maker's name Thorne, Tiverton, with a finely engraved centre and blued-steel single hand, with cast-brass c-scroll corner spandrels, the flat-top oak case with moulded edges to the trunk door and standing on bracket feet, height 204cm.Thorne were a well-known family of Tiverton clockmakers with Simon Thorne, working from circa 1726 in Fore Street, known to have made a number of fine walnut longcase clocks in the tradition of London clocks of the period. Simon died in 1761 and was succeeded by his son Abraham, born 1730, who may well be the maker of this clock.

Green, Milton, with engraved leaf, or frond, decoration to the centre unique to Green, cast-brass floral spandrels to the four corners and blued-steel hands, the flat-to oak case with shaped top to the trunk door and turned three-quarter columns to the hood, height 214cms. William Green of Milton-under-Wychwood born 1722, died circa 1802, is a well-known maker recorded as working in North Oxfordshire having been apprenticed to the prominent Gilkes family of Sibford. As a prominent Quaker, Green hosted monthly preparative meetings for members in his home town and was known to be a trustee in 1773 having arrived from Banbury Monthly Meeting in 1752.Reference Tim Marshall The Quaker Clockmakers of North Oxfordshire, pub. Mayfield Books 2013, with a biography of Green pages 141-153 along with numerous illustrations of examples of his work including his unique leaf, or frond, pattern engraved to the dial centre as noted on this example.

A WWII Second World War Japanese Officers foot locker / trunk with personal effects belonging to one Captain Takashi Kageyama of the 1st Imperial Guard. Contents comprising his tunic with insignia, trousers, belt, service cap with cover and badge, bread bag with name,water bottle, binoculars, boots, saki cap, notebook, paybook, and a war flag (yosegaki) signed by senior NCO's and enlisted men under his command. Captain Kageyama was born on the 5th December Meiji 42 (1909) and took his oath to serve the Emperor 2nd December Sowa 5 (1930). It is assumed that this trunk was a certified War trophy taken by the late Cpl M. Marshall of the 97 th (BM) Provost Unit during the Burma/Malayan Campaigns as there was a sword found with the trunk that had a release slip dated 1945 stating that he could keep it as a War Trophy.

A CASED PAIRING OF A PERCUSSION 50-BORE DOUBLE RIFLE AND A 12-BORE DOUBLE SPORTING GUN BY WESTLEY RICHARDS, serial numbers 7188 and 7733, circa 1855, the rifle with multi-grooved 30in. barrels, broad flat top-rib signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS 170 NEW BOND ST, LONDON', small blade fore-sight and standing notch rear-sight with two additional folding leaves, the engraved head of a deer at rib-end, vented breech-blocks, engraved top-tang featuring the head of a big cat, borderline and scroll engraved signed bar-action locks, the right with a recumbent lioness, the left with a recumbent stag, engraved hammers with safety bolts, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist and with iron furniture including a chequered lower tang finger spur, oval escutcheon to the underside engraved with a sun above a wreath and brass tipped ebony ramrod (ramrod throat finial absent), the shotgun with 30in. barrels (signature rubbed but legible), platinum vented plugs at breech, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, borderline and scroll engraved signed locks, chequered walnut half-stock with iron furniture, the front of trigger guard bow originally fitted with an ebony palm-stop (removed but present) and brass mounted mahogany ramrod, in a two-tier trunk-style case adapted for these guns, Westley Richards trade-label inside lid and complete with a number of period accessories including a mould, flask and assorted tools and requisites.
