Composite oak cased 8-day longcase clock, the arched hood with brass capped swan neck pediment over free-standing columns to a moulded throat and short trunk door flanked by canted corners on a plain plinth and later added base to a 30cm first period painted arched dial with chinoiserie scene to the arch over floral spandrels enclosing an Arabic chapter ring enclosing subsidiary seconds and date sector with pierced and stamped brass hands to a twin weight driven movement with plates united by four knopped pillars and with anchor escapement strike on a bell (associated) to dial and case (associated), height 202cm
Vincenzo Alfano, (Italian, ca. 1854 - 1897), a patinated bronze model of a boy with a cat and a mouse, after a model by Gesualdo Gatti (Italian, ca. 1855-1893); the nude youth portrayed laughing, seated on a stylised tree trunk, looking down towards the lurching cat on his right arm, and the mouse perched on his left hand 27 cm high, 13 cm wide CATALOGUE NOTES: The sculptor Vincenzo Alfano, known for his realist portrayals of the people of his native Naples, is thought to have seen Gesualdo Gatti's playful group depicting a boy with a cat and a mouse at the Naples National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1877. He was so fond of the model that he started replicating it on a smaller scale, adding his characteristic looseness to this previously more polished, formal work
A regulator longcase clock, by Albion and Jones, in a mahogany case, the silvered dial signed and dated 'AD 2001' and with 'up/down' quadrant, the glazed trunk door displaying a thermometer and barometer, with concealed lead weight, 45cm wide 25cm deep 192cm high This lot comes with the original handwritten drawings and calculations for its construction. Colin Bent was a much respected clockmaker and restorer and worked for many years from his shop Albion Clocks, in Grove Hill, South Woodford. Early 19th century Scottish mahogany longcase clock, with broken swan neck pediment, the broken arch painted dial with figures seated in interior to the arch, painted with portrait medallions to the spandrels of Ramsay, Scott, Ferguson and Burns, the dial having subsidiary second dial and calendar, inscribed indistinctly with name and “Perth”, the trunk with inset quadrant mould, fore-columns arched door, all with bead moulding, on slender bracket feet, 213cm high
Two 19th Century Coquilla Nut Containers. An early 19th century elongated egg shaped flask pierced and intricately carved with flowers & foliage between finely reeded bands and having a pierced bun finials to the centre and screw-off conical end, 3½" (9 cm) in length. And a carved figural snuff box modelled as two scantily clad nymphs and a bearded bacchanal sat on a leafy mound around a tree-stump; the hollowed trunk with an opening to the top (lacking stopper), the base with a rectangular aperture (lacking lid) 3" (7.5 cm) in length.
