An Impressive Edwardian Mahogany Inlaid Chiming Longcase Clock, the imposing case with carved and scroll decorated mounts, glazed trunk door with carved flowers and elaborate scroll frames, flanked by carved floral pilasters, plinth with a central inlaid panel depicting a basket of flowers, 15-inch brass dial with a silvered Arabic numeral chapter ring, seconds dial, three dials for strike/silent, chime/silent and Whittington/Westminster chime selections, triple weight driven movement, chiming on eight tubular bells and striking the hours on a larger tubular bell, mercury tube pendulum, 275cm high see illustration 24.02.17, Case with scuff marks and small dents in parts, small chips to the edges in parts, small ledge beneath the trunk door with scuff marks, skirting and feet with small dents and scratches, dial with small scratches and discoloured in parts, movement parts look dirty and needs a service, pendulum tube with visible mercury.
An Oak Eight Day Longcase Clock, signed Henry Brownbill, Leeds, circa 1780, broken arch pediment, fluted columns, mahogany crossbanded trunk door flanked by inset fluted pilasters, inside trunk door with a Brian Loomes retail label, 13-inch arched brass dial with a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, dial centre with subsidiary seconds, date aperture and finely engraved with scroll work and a central seascape scene depicting a mermaid beside a galleon, rolling moonphase in the arch and signed above, four pillar movement with an anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell, 227cm high see illustration 24.02.17, Pediment with small chips to the edges in parts, front corner of the hood with a chip, plinth with scratches in parts, movement with the rack spring missing, otherwise the movement looks complete.
A Good George III Mahogany Eight Day Longcase Clock, signed Robert Holland, London, circa 1760, pagoda pediment, stop brass fluted columns, pierced side frets, nicely figured trunk door with a moulded border, 12-inch arched brass dial with a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, subsidiary seconds, date aperture, the arch with a silvered disc signed, five pillar movement with an anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell, 249cm high see illustration 24.02.17, Pediment sound frets with damage and some pieces lacking in parts, finials are missing, case is slightly faded in parts, minor dents and minor chips to the edges in parts, trunk door with minor bowing to the top and bottom sides, chapter ring with minor discolouring marks, later seatboard, movement is complete.
A Very Rare and Unusual Quadrant Shaped Mahogany Barometer, signed John Hargraves & Thomas Tatham, dated 1830, renewed 1851 & 1862, the slender trunk with a good figured case and a quadrant form central glazed section containing the half-circular with the ranging scale reading from 28 inches to 31 inches, dial signed and dated, concealed mercury tube with a single brass recording hand adjusted with a knob in the centre of the trunk, 102cm high see illustration An almost identical barometer by Thomas Hargraves of Settle sold recently; he was possibly a relation of John Hargraves of Settle. Unfortunately, John is not recorded in the barometer makers' book but they must have been working around the same time in Settle and producing very unusual barometers possibly in the same workplace. The almost identical example by Thomas Hargraves sold at Bonhams, 12th December 2012, lot 69. Banfield (Edwin) Barometer Makers and Retailers 1660-1900, pg.103 records that Thomas Hargraves produced very unusual barometers which had slender rectangular cases and a quadrant or fan-shaped painted and glazed dial on one side of the case. The dial pointer was operated by a pivot mechanism. 24.02.17, The main trunk door of the barometer is bowed and springing when closed, trunk door is slightly faded in colour, quadrant part of the case with some replaced veneers, top pediment wooden block is later, some minor chips to edges in parts, some circular scuff marks from the side latches, painted card dial with small staining marks and the painted surfaces are slightly faded, mercury tube with air bubbles, barometer has not been tested for its working condition.
