JOHN PIPER. Eye and Camera, screen print, signed in pencil and numbered 11 from an edition of 50, 75 x 110cm . In good condition in the original plain gilt frame. This lots and the following lots of modern British prints were purchased by the late owner from Dorothy Field a contemporary art dealer in Farnsfield, Notts in the 1970s.

Both in excellent condition, the frame of the photograph splattered with paint, the canvas has not been relined; in the original exhibition frame
A Derby plate, painted probably by John Brewer with an extensive landscape with travellers on a path near cottages, a meandering river and mountains beyond, in a square gilt frame, the gilt edged yellow border painted in warm brown monochrome with five birds in branches or in flight divided by insects, 24cm diam, Duesbury & Kean painted crown, crossed batons, D and script title "View near Caernarfon' in blue, c1797-1800. The source print 'View near Caernarfon' was engraved by Samuel Middiman after J Barrett, for 'Middiman's Select Views in Great Britain,' published May 25 1786. The same subject was used on a plate in the Duke of Newcastle Service sold in these "rooms 10 April 2003, lot 128. . One or two minor scratches to the square gilt frame. Interestingly, on the border, an initialled oval monogram has been overpainted in yellow and a butterfly in brown superimposed, possibly at the factory, signifying the plate may have been from a cancelled order(?) (See lot 204 for illustration).
