I was employed as an assistant pattern-cutter working in the sample room to support the development and alterations of the patterns for the jersey/cotton and wool crepe designs. All the patterns were cut by hand, and then graded, which was used to fulfil the orders from the catwalk show, held twice a year at the main showroom also in Bruton Street. I worked closely with the design team and the head pattercutter/sample machinists to ensure smooth running of the patterns and toiles. After 2 years I was managing the design studio, ensuring quality controls on the patterns ready for production. The picture of the showroom is in the exhibition catalogue of 1980. I left employment due to having a child in 1981. I also worked on the technical drawings to support her designs, also shown in the 1980 catalogue. The patterns and toiles had great precision and accuracy, and sometimes many adjustments and alterations, which were colour coded for communication across the team were undertaken. The discipline of getting the patterns right for toiling/sampling and the changes that were made during the process from idea to final garment was highly advanced.'
