A rare Worcester porringer, circa 1757-58Lightly moulded with spiral wreathing and an ozier border, with twin twig handles, the interior transfer-printed in black with 'Les Garçons Chinois', two chinoiserie figures climbing a rococo branch, picked out in coloured enamels, a compressed version of the print repeated three times below the rim, the exterior painted with scattered sprigs in various tones of blue, 17.8cm wide across the handlesFootnotes:ProvenanceRalph Kenber CollectionTwo-handled shallow bowls or porringers are rare in English porcelain, this Continental shape most likely copied from contemporary Meissen or Chantilly. Other Worcester examples identified as porringers have been noted with the principal decoration placed inside the bowl, as here, and none of these have been recorded with a lid.
