Hunter, W. S. Victoria Bridge, Montreal Canada, Summer [and Winter] View, a tinted lithograph print of two seasonal panoramic views of Victoria Bridge, each 687mm x 218mm, some surface abrasions and soiling, backed on linen, New York: Sarony, Major and Knapp, [c.1860] This print was produced in 1860, perhaps to mark the official opening by the Prince of Wales, but specifically to 'accompany' a small souvenir booklet, Hunter's Handbook of the Victoria Bridge, written by F.N. Boxer and published in the same year by Hunter and Pickup. The print is unusual in having two seasonal views; one of summer and a second of winter, presumably to demonstrate the famous 'ice-breaking' piers in action.

Gilbert Holiday (1879-1937) 29th Division crossing the Hohenzollern Bridge, Cologne Inscribed Rough for Entry into Cologne on a wet December day and dated below mount Pencil 26 x 37cm With a framed print of the finished painting and a letter from the artist describing the scene (3)The letter reads The official entry into Cologne in December 1918 found the city entirely denuded of German Troops. In fact the only people wearing even military caps were the guttersnipes, paperboys etc. This sketch from a picture done at the time - The 29th Div Gunners going over the Hohenzollern Bridge with General Plumer taking the salute under the statue of the Kaiser - The cathedral in the background and urchins wearing military caps inthe foreground - became again of topical interests now the town is witnessing the entry of its own troops once more. A great deal of water has passed under the bridge since last Cologne saw her soldiers there in November 1918. I can finish this quickly if it's of use to youThe sketch was probably offered at the time of the reoccupation of the Rhineland by German troops in 1936, with a view to publication in an illustrated magazine. ++1. Slight mount mark lower and right margins otherwise good; 2. some fading otherwise good; 3. Strong mount marks around each section, some uneven fading and creasing
