William Courtis (Curtis) (1807-1885) Master Mariner of Fore Street, Polruan, Cornwall. According to his Master's Certificate (No 36.442) issued at Fowey on 30 December 1850, he was born at Polruan on 14th October 1807, where he had "been employed as Master in the coasting trade nine years". His wife Johanna was born in 1811 and died in 1887. Of his children, those named on this bowl were all baptised at Lanteglos by Fowey, Rebecca on 18 September 1831, William on 19 May 1833 and Charles on 12 July 1835.++Small old filled chip and some rubbing
