A late 19th Century American Walnut Cased Wall Clock, Jerome & Co, the cushion moulded rectangular form with a single panelled glazed door with a reverse painted on glass print of a streetscape, beneath a 7" square painted dial, with Roman numerals, outside minute track and blued steel hands, to a spring driven movement, with anchor escapement and strike on a coiled gong, height 26"
HOLLAND VYVYAN: (1886-1967) British Author and Translator, son of Oscar Wilde. A.L.S., Vyvyan Holland, one page, 8vo, London, 3rd March 1966, to Peter Wiener. Holland states that it is flattering that his correspondent wants something written by him, although explains `I usually type out my lucubrations and when once they are in print I throw away the typescript` continuing `Perhaps I should not do this, but then my flat would be cluttered up with odd pieces of paper and it would be quite impossible for me to find anything when I wanted to do so!` Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Holland. CORTOT ALFRED: (1877-1962) Franco-Swiss Pianist & Conductor. A.L.S., Al. Cortot, four pages, 8vo, Lausanne Palace, 27th June 1946, to Louis Risacher of the music publishers Editions Salabert in Paris, in French. Cortot writes to his correspondent regarding some proofs, informing him that `I have already corrected the proofs of the Sonata Op.13 and of Schumann`s Fantaisie that I return you today via Maison Foetisch who agreed to undertake the preparation of the package! You can print the Sonata after corrections-as for the Fantaisie, I would like to have a second proof and I permit myself to recommend that you also forward to me the page mentioning the note on the draft-you can also send me other proofs to correct if they are ready, as I will remain here until the end of July.` Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Cortot. *John Holt (b.1949) . "Bohemia". Signed and extensively inscribed on a label verso, pastel drawing, 20cm by 70cm, He attended Stockport College of Art to study advertising and graphic design. Having completed the final year of his degree at Salford College of Art, he was awarded a Bursary Award from the Royal Society of Arts. After graduating in 1973 he embarked upon a career in advertising. Working as an art director he designed and illustrated books for the European market. It was during this time that he became increasingly inspired by Spanish and French post-impressionist painters. His love of fine art grew as he visited local and national art exhibitions and he discovered a great affection for the Fauvist masters, Matisse and Braque. He has also been recognised by the industry; he was nominated as Best Up-and-Coming Artist in both 1999 and 2000 by the Fine Art Trade Guild. John has had numerous group and one-man exhibitions both in the UK and abroad, The artist`s work is being produced in print form by the Ikea group.
