Claire Kerr Lake, 2023 Pencil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Claire Kerr is a painter based in Dublin; she also uses drawing, print, objects and text. Modest in scale, her work invites intimacy with a viewer but leaves open the question of meaning and interpretation. Often concerned with the fundamental properties of an image - surface, depth, context - her work seeks out the idiosyncratic or peculiar, trains of thought at a tangent, an unobtrusive weirdness. I visited the lake last spring and with no-one else around, it seemed timeless in the sunny afternoon. The ripples on the surface of the water and the rushes by the water's edge were exactly as I had imagined from reading about Sir Bedevere in Tennyson's Idylls of the King, when, instead of throwing the sword into the depths of the lake as he had promised, he at first hides it at the water's edge, replying to Arthur's question as to what had happened, ''I heard the water lapping on the crag/ And the long ripple washing in the reeds'', giving himself away by his answer. I drew the lake as if through a monocular or lens, or perhaps as if at the end of an old film, wanting to give a sense of both nearness and distance in time and space. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork These minimal, geometric paintings are non representational, concerned with reductive colour and are a series. The surfaces are built up through intense layering over time to achieve physical depth in the paintings. The layers relate to the way in which layers are built up and worn down through the natural processes of time in nature. This process also helps to create a sense of "Yugen" an Asian concept which means inexpressible depth or invisible beauty. This idea arises from the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi - Sabi which describes the inexpressible beauty which things especially natural objects attain with the passage of time. It incorporates the idea of the beauty of imperfection and irregularity or roughness and avoids ornamentation in structure.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.

Helen Fay Moon, 2023 Etching Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About For many years my work has been about the beauty, dignity and character of animals. The poise and movement of animals, their behaviour and nature are an area I find endlessly fascinating. I like to think of them observing the world as I am observing them and then try to deduce what it is that they rely on to navigate their way through life. Whether it is the curiosity of a primate or the heightened senses of a hound, each and every creature has unique adaptations and behaviours, skills and strengths and these are what I try to convey in my work. Hannah Gilson Ziggy Says (use your imagination), 2023 Fine art print/mixed media collage Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Hannah Gilson is a London based illustrator and educator whose mixed media practice combines painting, screen printing and drawing. Evolving from a predominately fine arts background, her work has naturally settled with hand drawn and digital illustration, where she engages with popular culture and aesthetics. Education BA Fine Art, Winchester School of Art Select Exhibitions/Awards Winner of the Boodle Hatfield Printmaking Prize, 2022. Gallery Representation Air Contemporary, Aunt Joy Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork I discovered art and visual pop culture during long hours spent in record shops as a child (my dad was a collector). I passed the time by looking at the album covers and this sparked an interest in the relationship between art and music which would develop more specifically into looking at the role of the artist in creating and sustaining an icon. Both 'Debs' and 'Ziggy says..' link back to these early visual influences, whilst 'Dry your eyes mate' is a more playful take on Michelangelo's David and his masculinity.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. Emma Turpin Buildings, 2023 Mixed Media on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About In recent years, Emma Turpin has been exploring the notion of shelter in landscape. There are structures hidden in forests, and there are others that have almost become part of the landscape with trees bursting from inside them. In other works we see nothing built or man-made but rather shelter suggested by an area of light emerging through a tangle of branches. Emma uses these familiar natural forms to try and find a harmonious resolution between colour and form. Corinna Button Now It's My Turn IV, 2023 Oil and mixed media on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.)   About After completing a BA honours degree in painting, I pursued a printmaking postgraduate degree in the UK, where I am from. It was during this time that I was impacted by the German Expressionists, whose works, particularly in printmaking, left an indelible impression on me. I dedicated many subsequent years to developing my work in etching and other forms of printmaking. Today, printmaking continues to be a medium that intrigues me and is hugely influential in the way I approach my painting and sculpture. People are the subjects of my work and I am intrigued by moments that, despite initially appearing quite commonplace, are (for me) charged with great significance and meaning. My inspiration is drawn from experiences or predicaments I encounter in daily life, such as social gatherings, images from social media and words from a song or a poem. All these generate ideas for themes that I can build upon, "dress-up" and weave into my work. I compose figures either in groupings or as a single figure or just a face. My aim is not to create exact likenesses, but rather to create prototypical or archetypal figures whose personality or identity is both partly exposed and partly hidden beneath the surface. Everything about the way I work (both technique and subject) is motivated by the desire to reveal or "bring something to light." Thus, my process involves layering then scraping back, building then excavating; otherwise, peeling back layers to "carve out" and reveal something hidden beneath the surface. Hannah Gilson Debs, 2023 Fine art print, mixed media and collage Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Hannah Gilson is a London based illustrator and educator whose mixed media practice combines painting, screen printing and drawing. Zoe Anker Connections, 2023 Multi Layered, paper stencil screenprint with hand embossing Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Zoe Anker studied MA Design for Textiles Future at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, London; graduating in 2004. Since that time she worked within the fashion Industry, before returning to her passion for printmaking full time. Silkscreen printing has always been Zoe's medium of choice, whether that be art pieces on paper or fashion fabrics. Zoe has a strong passion for the juxtaposition of colour, geometric shape and mark making, with the use of layers to create interesting and unique forms. Zoe is currently based at Wimbledon Art Studios, London. Where she has held a studio for over four years. Zoe is very much a "process" led artist and loves to work in a playful and free manner. "The process always influences the outcome of my work- I would say I am very impulsive, free and playful. I use mainly paper stencils within my art work, I love the freedom working this way and having the ability to evolve shapes and layers at a rapid pace." Zoe rarely produces a full edition of work and prefers to work with one off pieces. Often a small mini range on various scales. This "capsule collection" type of process and body of work is a nod towards her Fashion Industry background. Zoe draws inspiration from pop culture, travel, nature and brutal architecture. Kate Gibb Warmer Climes, 2023 Silkscreen on Gesso Board Signed on Verso 12.7 x 17.8cm (5 x 7 in.) About Kate Gibb has worked as a printmaker and illustrator for over fifteen years, based at her print studio in Paddington, London. Her early studies in printed textiles fuelled her inherent love of colour and pattern, which continually provide the basis for the majority of her art prints. As a self-taught artist, Kate Gibb is inspired by the silkscreen process, the random hiccups and 'happy accidents' that happen within this process. Commercially she is renowned for her Music related sleeve artworks, notably for her relationship with 'The Chemical Brothers' - but her clients also include brands such as Apple, Nike, Stussy, Dries Van Noten and Adidas Originals. You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do. N.B. * HANNAH FRANK (SCOTTISH 1908 - 2008), NIGHT (1930) lithograph on paper, signed in pencil, titled and datedframed and under glassimage size 40cm x 29cm, overall size 44cm x 33cm Provenance: The original pen and ink drawing was exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute (RGI) in 1930 and was published in the Glasgow University Magazine in February of the same year. Note: Since McTear's first promoted Hannah Frank's spectacular work in 2011, the prices for her ever more rare signed prints have continued to rise with many current prices being more than five times higher than those achieved barely a decade ago. The latest UK auction record figure for a single signed lithograph was most recently achieved (twice) in our auction on 24th October 2021 and now stands at £820 (hammer). Note 2: Hannah Frank was the last living link to the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau period. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art and Glasgow University in the 1920`s and her haunting pen and ink drawings have been exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy and Royal Glasgow Institute. A series of lithographs of some of her 90 drawings were made in the 1960's and again in the 1980's to satisfy the demand for her work after exhibitions in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Only a relatively few of these prints were hand signed (in pencil) by Hannah and it's understood that only one print was ever editioned (numbered) in a conventional manner. A major exhibition at the Royal Glasgow Institute in 2006 brought her work to a new generation of admirers and received considerable press coverage. Her work toured for five years in the UK and the USA culminating in an exhibition at Glasgow University which opened on her 100th birthday 23rd August 2008. After her death, she was awarded a posthumous Honorary Doctorate at Glasgow University and Glasgow City Council`s Lord Provost`s Award For Art (2009).

We may see something of the tragic predicament of the individual in the twilight of the gods''. Heller describes Howson's ''Nijinsky'' as ''vastly powerful''.
