He was a keen sailor and and oarsman and a talented landscape painter, known for his views of Dorset and Gloucestershire. He joined the Royal Air Force and worked as a draughtsman on the Folland Gnat, the first plane used by the RAF Display Team the Red Arrows. He showed at the Royal Academy, the RBA and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
