Jim Anderson, "Mesmerism", mixed media print on handmade paper, 82 x 50cm, c. 2019. One of a series of images exploring the eternal subject of romance and its hazards. This work is loosely inspired by the spooky Victorian poem 'Mesmerism' by Robert Browning, in which a stalker-ish gentleman imagines using hypnosis to woo his lover. The situation is presented between theatre curtains as though it is some kind of garish fairground sideshow. The picture is a mixed-media piece using lino-cut, collagraph, stencil, and collage. It is on highly textured handmade paper which I make myself. I like the idea of art which uses recycled elements. The artwork is 'floated' in a deep white-stained wooden frame. Cost of shipping in UK £25.
Jim Anderson, "The ocean fights back (dedicated to H. P. Lovecraft", mixed media print on handmade paper, 79 x 49cm, c. 2019. The carefree human dives into the calm waters, blissfully unaware of what lies beneath. A humorous image of the natural world getting its revenge on careless humanity. The picture is satirically dedicated to the early 20th Century horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, who imagined our universe as a precarious place perpetually menaced by grotesque tentacled 'elder creatures'. The picture is a mixed-media piece using lino-cut, collagraph, and stencil. It is on highly textured handmade paper which I make myself. The artwork is 'floated' in a deep white-stained wooden frame. Cost of shipping in UK £25.
