STE 6.05 Thomas Ruff zählt zu den spannendsten zeitgenössischen Fotografen. Er gehört zu der zweiten Generation der Düsseldorfer Schule, die von weiteren renommierten Künstlerinnen und Künstlern wie bspw. Candida Höfer, Axel Hütte, Thomas Struth und Andreas Gursky geprägt wird. Durch Zusammenziehen der Namen wird diese Generation oft auch ironisch die "Struffskys" genannt. Allen gemeinsam ist neben der gleichen Ausbildungsstätte v.a. die Größe ihrer an museale Tafelbilder erinnernden Prints. Thomas Ruff ist dabei der Hauptvertreter einer konzeptuellen Fotografie. In immer neuen Werkreihen - wie z.B. von Interieurs, Porträts, Häusern, Zeitungsfotos, Nachtbildern oder Nudes - stellt er die Fotografie und die Wahrnehmung gekonnt in Frage. Seine Fotografien ziehen uns durch ihre wunderbare Ästhetik in den Bann, sind somit aber auch stets hintersinnige Reflektionen über das Medium selbst. Das hier vorgestellte Werk "17h 51min/-18°" zählt zu der Serie der Sternenbilder, die zwischen 1989 und 1992 entsteht, und gehört innerhalb dieser Serie der Kategorie "Aufnahmen der Milchstraße mit hoher Sternendichte" an. Die Fotografien wurden jedoch nicht vom Künstler selbst aufgenommen. Sie stammen aus einem Konvolut von über 1000 Negativen wissenschaftlicher Aufnahmen des Sternenhimmels aus dem "European Southern Observatory" (ESO) in den Anden. Ruff wählte einzelne Negative aus und aus diesen wiederum Ausschnitte, die er uns großformatig präsentiert. Die Werktitel entsprechen, ganz nüchtern, den astronomischen Koordinaten der ESO-Negative. Bester Technologie und einer mehrstündigen Belichtungszeit sind die Brillanz und Detailgenauigkeit zu verdanken. Das Thema Zeit spielt eine große Rolle für die Fotografie: Die Belichtungszeit, die Entstehungszeit, das Festhalten einer Zeit, das Vergehen der Zeit usw. Und welch anderes Motiv wäre geeigneter, um all dies metaphorisch zu versinnbildlichen? So verlieren wir uns in "17h 51min/-18°", vom Werk umfangen, im Himmel und schauen auf Sterne, die Millionen von Jahre alt sind, auf Sterne, die noch ganz jung sind und auf Sterne, die längst erloschen sind und deren Licht noch durch Raum und Zeit wandert. Der Künstler vereint in dieser Fotografie Wissenschaft mit Romantik. Ebenso verweist er auf die Kraft und Schönheit der Natur, wie auch auf den Einfluss, den sie auf uns hat; auch esoterisch, denn die Astrologie folgt der Astronomie stets auf den Fuß. Interessanterweise wird im Werkverzeichnis darauf verwiesen, dass der Sternenhimmel Ruff, der als Jugendlicher die Astronomie liebte, als ein "Motiv für abstrakte Bilder" diene. Somit gehen von "17h 51min/-18°" nicht nur die erwähnten Assoziationen aus. Die Fotografie ist weit mehr als das Abbild von Sternen. Sie zeigt ein abstraktes, grafisch höchst spannungsvolles Bild mit einzelnen oder sich verdichtenden weißen Punkten auf schwarzem Grund - gemäß der oft zitierten Aussage des Künstlers, dass er mit seiner Fotografie keine Abbilder, sondern Bilder schaffe. Wolfgang Tillmans setzt sich in der Werkreihe "Paper Drops" auf verschiedene Arten und Weisen mit dem Medium Papier auseinander. So dient dieses nicht bloß als Träger eines von ihm geschaffenen und gedruckten Motivs. "Papiere sind zugleich Objekte, die über eine visuelle und physische Anziehungskraft verfügen und gleichermaßen ästhetisch wie emotional aufgeladen sind" sagt Tillmans über seine Arbeiten. So hinterfragen seine fallen- und liegengelassenen Fotopapiere, die auf diese Weise die Form eines Tropfens erzeugen, die Bedeutung dieses Materials: Seine Arbeiten sind sowohl chemisch behandelte Papiere, können Erinnerungsstücke sein oder durch ihre rechteckige Form eine Ausstellungswand unterteilen. Zugleich spielt der Titel "Paper Drops" auf die Auswurf-Funktion eines Druckers an: Auch hier kann es durch Papierstau zu Knicken und Stauchungen kommen, die eine Dreidimensionalität erzeugen und dem Blatt einen weiteren, objekthaften Charakter verleihen. Die Fokussierung Tillmans auf die geschwungene Form des zum Liegen gekommenen Papiers verschiebt den Blickwinkel des Betrachters von der ursprünglichen Bedeutung dieses Mediums als Träger von Informationen in Form von Text oder Bild: Sie bringt sein Werk in einen anderen Kontext, der das Objekthafte in den Vordergrund stellt und offenbart, dass Tillmans "Kunst- und Werkbegriff von Offenheit, Austausch und Gleichwertigkeit geprägt ist". Satire - English School (late 19th/early 20th century)A collection of forty-nine periodical caricatures, illustrative of British humour, the majority appear to be mock-ups for Punch titled, pen and ink on paper, the largest 22.6cm x 17.4cm, [archive]The majority of the collection appear to be well-executed copies of caricatures/cartoons whose variants subsequently appeared in print for Punch from 1890-1920. The confidence of execution indicates the hand of a professional draughtsman or artist.

Printed in colour on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm fine art stock, this print is entitled Facing the Nemesis and shows Lee during the "museum of horrors" fight sequence with Han (Shih Kien) and his deadly knife hand. This print is numbered four of 10 and is signed in pencil by Michael Allin, the screenwriter for Enter the Dragon. Dr. King Schultz's (Christoph Waltz) costume from Quentin Tarantino's Western Django Unchained. Schultz wore his suit and hat in many scenes, and wore his complete costume as he and Django (Jamie Foxx) plotted how to save Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) from Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) in Mississippi. The costume consists of a felt Stetson Derby with a black satin hat band; a grey woollen suit jacket with matching trousers; a pinstripe waistcoat; a white cotton shirt; and a tie. Tyler Durden's (Brad Pitt) screen-matched bloodied "Sock it to Me" shirt from David Fincher's black comedy Fight Club. The shirt screen-matches to the scene where Durden purposely allowed Lou (Peter Iacangelo) to beat him for holding a fight club in the basement of Lou's Tavern without permission. This blood-stained, light beige cotton shirt features a blue and rust-coloured graphic on the chest. It is in excellent overall condition with significant staining from stage blood throughout and some deliberate wear on the stitching from production. A set of Norman Babcock stop-motion faces, crew gifts, gift box and bag from Chris Butler and Sam Fell's stop-motion comedy horror ParaNorman. These faces were created for and used in filming by Laika Studios, which produced thousands of faces to convey a variety of emotions and expressions. They were then gifted to crew members after production wrapped.Made from 3D-printed resin, the faces are intricately hand-painted to enable consistency between each shot, and are attached via magnets. One face is mounted on a resin plaque - finished to mimic wood - and features a gold plaque. Three faces are displayed in a sectioned wooden box with an engraving reading "ParaNorman Crew 2010-2012" on the left side. The lot is accompanied by a cardboard box containing an instruction sheet, and a paper bag featuring a print of the top of Norman's face. The "Undefeated Gaul" wore his costume in multiple episodes as he served as a general to ex-gladiator Spartacus' (Liam McIntyre) rebel army.The costume comprises two red leather embossed pauldrons (one labelled "R, Crixus Stunt"); a textured cape-like piece draped over one shoulder; two mismatched brown leather bracers; an Aztec print fabric sash; a heavily embellished red belt with adhered leather strips; a pair of suede briefs featuring chain mail sections; a leather-and-metal codpiece; a stunt rubber sword housed in its scabbard; and a dagger which is affixed within belt loops at the back. The costume consists of a black wrap top; a neon yellow lace bra (size 34A); a red-and-black leopard print skirt (size M); a purple-and-red leopard print belt scarf; a pair of black stockings; a pair of pink-and-black thigh-high stockings; and a pair of black knee-high boots. Accessories are also included, comprising a pair of earrings, two necklaces, three bracelets (labelled "Top", "Mid" and "Wrist"), as well as spare sets of both styles of stocking. The lot is accompanied by three handwritten production tags, labelled either "Melina" or "Rachel Ticotin", and detailing the scenes the costume was intended for. "Jenny discuss" is handwritten in the top-left corner, referring to two-time Oscar®-winner Jenny Beavan, who designed the costumes for the film. Four pages feature printed concept designs for King Philip II (Val Kilmer), Cleitus (Gary Stretch), Alexander and Alexander's helmet. Two feature handwritten notes from Oliver Stone, labelled "OS". The 11 golden coins are made of plaster in varying shapes and sizes, with a gold-coloured paint finish and raised human faces and animal motifs.
