DAVID FRANCIS BARRY (1854-1934) - American photographer, a late 19th century photographic print depicting American Army officers and female companions on the steps of a country house - possibly surviving members of the 7th Cavalry - battle of Little Bighorn, in the centre is a Lieutenant General in full uniform with helmet and cavalry sword, around him are five officers including Lieutenant Francis Marion Gibson, a civilian gentleman and seven ladies. The photograph is stamped 'Barry' beneath the figures and has a label verso for 'D. F. Barry photographs of all noted Indian chiefs', 12.5cm x 7.5cm. Accompanying the photograph is a hand written note which has attempted to identify many of the sitters. The list includes Lieutenant Andrew Nave, Jonathan Merrill, Captain Barcer and Mrs J McDougall.
