Isaac Nathan is best-known for his settings of Hebrew Melodies (1815), with words by Byron, which remained in print for much of the nineteenth century. He is also considered the father of Australian music, emigrating there in 1841, and giving some the first performances on that continent of works by Mozart and Beethoven, as well as pioneering the research and transcription of music of the Australian aboriginals.
