Hard News, illustrated by Steven Spurrier, a self-contained short story and evidently the first appearance of what would become Scoop [published the same year by Chapman & Hall]. The text corresponds to chapters 2-12 of Book II in the finished novel, some of it verbatim, some expanded or amended to suit the short story format. Collectors of first editions should appreciate the significance of an important author's contributions to magazines and periodicals, this after all being the true first appearance in print of Waugh's accomplished satire of journalism [presumably not documented until now]. Jonson (Ben).- Jonsonus Virbius: or, The Memorie of Ben: Johnson revived by the Friends of the Muses, first edition, [edited by Bishop Brian Duppa], lacks final blank, first couple of gatherings trimmed close at lower edge with loss of signatures and catchwords, ink annotations to endpapers and text, occasional foxing, later green calf, gilt, a little soiled, [STC 14784; Pforzheimer 562], Printed by E.P. for Henry Seile, 1638.⁂ This elegiac collection, collected in tribute to Ben Jonson who had died in August of the previous year, includes works by Francis Beaumont, Henry King, William Cartwright, Owen Feltham and John Ford. It also includes Edmund Waller's first appearance in print on d3/4.Scarce at auction with only two appearances since 1964.Provenance: The Earl of Northesk (bookplate); G. Furman (ink name to front endpaper and extensive notes throughout)

Marvell's work had elicited several responses, including from Parker himself.
