Folio, publishers blue cloth gilt, recased preserving panels of the boards and title section to spine. Suggesting this to be Kentfield's own copy, 'Presented to G T May of Valhalla, High Street, Bognor Regis', by Mr Kentfield's grandaughter, with additional albumen print photograph loosely inserted, showing late 19thc billiards game and purporting to show Kentfield at play. Théophile Alexandre Steinlen (French/Swiss, 1859-1923),'Le Journal: La Traite des Blanches',colour lithograph, 1899,printed by Charles Verneau,68 x 58 cm (reduced)*This poster was advertising the sensational novel 'White Slavery'. It depicts a pimp with three of his victims, one is arguing for her freedom, one has accepted her fate, whilst one is in despair. This is an pre-censored, smaller format version of the poster, identical to the larger except bearing additional text on an extended sofa and an additional frame to the image. In later versions, Steinlen was obliged to cover up the exposure. CONDITION REPORT: Later framed and glazed. Colours good. Print reduced. Rips to bottom corners. Stamp to top right. Condition fair overall. Not backed on linen.
