George Grosz. Ecce Homo, first edition, title printed in red, 100 lithographed plates, including 16 coloured, original pictorial wrappers, folio, Berlin: Malik-Verlag, 1923 Ecce Homo was made available in five issues, with varying degrees of rarity. The copy offered here appears to be 'Edition C': an unsigned board binding with a print run between 6000-8000 copies. Few survived the Nazi dislike for Grosz and his work. ** Plate 25 with small tear in margin, original wrappers lightly browned, edges slightly creased, front free-endpaper detached from staples, card slipcase a.f., but title preserved on new replacement case.

The copy in the National Portrait Gallery archive of the group photograph is annotated, "This engraving is a copy of a photo taken in the garden of Albert Smith at Waltham Green in 1857". ** Mixed, some fading and scuffing, mostly good.
