*Churchill (Right Hon. Winston S.). A good quality gelatin silver print press photograph, [4th April 1955], showing Churchill holding open the car door for Queen Elizabeth II as she leaves 10 Downing Street after the dinner party given by Churchill, signed by Churchill in black ink to lower left of image close to the Queen's white evening dress hem, 20 x 15 cm, framed and glazed Sir Winston Churchill resigned as Prime Minister due to failing health following this dinner party, with the news being announced in a statement from Buckingham Palace the following afternoon. This image was to have been used in the National papers on 5th April but did not appear due to a newspaper strike. The owner of the photograph, Mrs K. Broome, was employed as cook for the Prime Minister and Lady Churchill at the time and was able to get a copy of the photograph which Sir Winston signed for her at a later date. (1)
