The 103rd Bombay Fusiliers (Royal Dublin Fusiliers) Mid 19th Century Print by Rudolph Ackermann. This large and detailed print depicts the Bombay Fusiliers on parade wearing coatees and shakos, being presented medals. The title being "The Presentation of The Medals and Clasps to the Bombay Fusiliers" "on the 10th Day of February 1852". The address of the publisher Rudolph Ackermann is given as 191 Regent Street. Mounted into a contemporary oak glazed frame, this intern mounted with a gilt button of the 103rd Bombay Fusiliers. Overall size 38 x 29 1/2 inches. Some foxing. By Family Repute from the Officer's Mess of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers on disbandment.
WW2 RAF Stalag Luft 3 POW Record Card. A rare example, recording the details of Warrant Officer Cyril Van De Velde a Flight Engineer with 576 Squadron who was shot down on the Mailly-Le Camp raid June 1944. The card retains the two original photographs and finger print, plus typed details. Fragile condition ... Accompanied by a small number of reprint photographs in uniform etc. Information supplied by the vendor. Warrant Officer Cyril Van De Velde began Operational flying with 101 Squadron and had survived ten trips to Berlin the disastrous Nuremberg raid and on the 3rd May 1944, now serving with 576 Squadron was briefed for his last trip of his tour of 30 Operations to Mailly-Le Camp. Shot down he was one of only two of the crew to bail out. Now on the run he made towards Spain and was soon met up with the local resistance. However his luck ran out at Aulnay Aux Planches when he was picked up by the Gestapo. Imprisoned his card gives the date 12th July 1944, he remained a captive until released by the Russians and he made his way to Berlin, where he met up with the American Army. He died in 2010.
