Lot 615

A Jade Bi-Disc Pendant, the stone of various shades from white to green with brown veining, free to spin within its mount on a fancy link chain, chain length 50cm, diameter of the hoop 2.2cm . The pendant is in good condition. The chain fastens with a bolt ring catch. No hallmark, but has Chinese stamps and in our opinion would test as gold. Gross weight 6.7 grams.

An Art Deco Jade and Diamond Plaque Pendant on Chain, the tapered oblong plaque carved and pierced to depict birds and fruiting vines, total estimated diamond weight 0.40 carat approximately, measures 2.3cm by 5.1cm, chain length 47cm in a fitted case by Carrington & Co Ltd see illustration . The piece is in good condition. It bears no hallmark nor stamps but in our opinion the mounts would test as gold. It fastens with a bolt ring catch, the catch is stamped possibly '9CT' but is unclear. Gross weight 10.2 grams.

~ A Late 17th Century Brass Striking Lantern Clock, signed John Knibb, Oxon, circa 1690, four posted lantern frame case, pierced floral pattern frets, latched side doors, turned feet, 6-1/2-inch chapter ring signed John Knibb, Oxon, dial centre with engraved scroll decoration, central alarm disc, blued steel hand, two train movement with a verge escapement and countwheel striking on a top mounted bell, (alarm train is missing) but a vestige of the alarm train visible outside the backplate, hoop and spikes, bob pendulum, 33cm high see illustrations John Knibb (1650-1722) was a member of the famous Knibb family of clockmakers, and was the younger brother of Joseph Knibb (1640-1721). John worked as apprentice to Joseph in Oxford c.1664 and they were clockmakers to Kings Charles II and James II. When Joseph later moved to London, John took charge of the Oxford business and received the Freedom of the City in 1673. In 1700 he was made the Mayor of Oxford. He made many fine and complicated examples on his own, as well as with Joseph. Examples of his work are in collections such as the Wertherfield Collection and the Guildhall Museum. 06.06.19. Top finial is missing, three of the top corner finials have old signs of solder repair marks, front bottom left hand side foot with an old sign of solder repair mark, brass surfaces are all faded and nicely aged, side doors are possibly later, chapter ring numerals with some wax missing in parts and also on the alarm disc numerals, movement is dirty, alarm work is missing but a vestige of the alarm train is visible outside the backplate, movement needs cleaning, weight is missing.

~ A George III Mahogany Striking Table Clock, signed Smoult, Southshields, circa 1790, inverted bell top with a carrying handle, side viewing windows, 7-inch arched brass dial, dial centre with an inner date ring and corresponding central date hand, arch with silvered disc signed, twin fusee movement with a verge escapement and striking on a bell, movement backplate with engraved scroll decoration, bob pendulum, movement secured by brackets, 52.5cm high over handle see illustration 04.06.19. Case slightly faded in parts, veneers with small chips and lifting in parts, minor dents in parts, later feet, front and back doors slightly bowed, back door with chips to the other beading, front door glass with one crack, dial wooden surround with chips, dial is discoloured and dirty, movement is dirty, date hand is not moving and needs attention, striking gut wire is broken, strike work not working, movement going train is working.

~ A Walnut Eight Day Longcase Clock, signed Greaves, Newcastle, circa 1750, flat top pediment, arched trunk door, 12-inch arched brass dial with a chapter ring signed, seconds dial and date aperture, arch with lunar dial and aperture, four pillar movement with an anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell, 221cm high see illustration 05.06.19. Case is faded, case with cracks and chips in parts, some scuff marks, trunk door is bowed, base and feet with chips, dial is dirty, movement is dirty.

~ A Green Chinoiserie Eight Day Longcase Clock with Rocking Father of Time Automata, signed Edward Greatrex, Birmingham, circa 1750, green chinoiserie case with gilt painted floral decoration, trunk dial with oriental scenes depicting a pagoda, boats and figures, 14-1/4-inch arched brass dial with a silvered chapter ring signed, dial arch with a rocking ''Father of Time'' aperture, dial centre with a lunar scale and date aperture, four pillar movement with an anchor escapement and inside countwheel striking on a bell, 240cm high see illustration 05.06.19. Case is nicely aged throughout, gilt painted scenes are discoloured, case with cracks, chips and rubbing in parts, some surfaces feel dry and some shrinkage to the paint, door mouldings with splits, base with scuff marks, dial is slightly discoloured, movement is clean, with two weights and a pendulum.

An Early 18th Century Walnut Longcase Clock, signed Roger Penton, circa 1710, later caddy pediment, pierced blind fret work panels, side viewing windows, well figured trunk door with moulded borders, re-built plinth, 12-1/4-inch square brass dial with a silvered chapter ring signed, matted dial centre with seconds dial and date aperture, crown and cherub spandrels, five latched pillars, anchor escapement, outside countwheel striking on a bell, 266cm high see illustration 06.06.19. Case with a later built caddy pediment, case needs restoration throughout, hood door with later hinges, wooden dial surround is later, hood with chips and cracks to veneers and some veneers are missing, trunk door with cracks to the top and bottom sides, half of the trunk door moulded edges are missing, plinth has been re-built, backboard is patched to the top and bottom sides, dial is dirty, movement with one dial foot not locating into the movement front plate, movement needs cleaning, with two weights and a pendulum.

Hood right hand side sound fret with one small piece of fret missing, case sides with small staining marks, case with scratches and dents in parts, dial is slightly discoloured, movement plates are dirty and needs a service.

The ring was valued for insurance purposes in 2011 at £34,800. The ring is in good condition. It has no hallmarks nor stamps but in our opinion would test as gold. The marquise diamond measures 16.11mm x 8.67mm x 5.45mm = 4.40 carat approximately. Each of the pear cut diamonds are estimated to weigh 0.25 carat approximately. The clarity of the marquise cut diamond is I1/I2, there is an inclusion in the diamond which is surface reaching. The approximate qualities of the pear cut diamonds are; colour I/J/K, clarity SI2/I1/I2. Gross weight 7.0 grams. CR made 12.06.19.

An Aquamarine, Pearl and Ruby Necklace, with ruby and split pearl floral cluster alternating with various cut of aquamarine, to split pearl set scroll panels suspending a central pendant which comprises a heart shaped aquamarine, a seed pearl foliate section and a pear cut aquamarine, on a fine yellow trace link chain, chain length 40cm, drop length 3.3cm see illustration ..  The necklace is in good condition. It fastens with a bolt ring catch. It has a panel attached which is stamped '15CT' and in our opinion it would test as gold. This item may have had some alteration/re-working. The settings to the reverse of the pearl clusters are not necessarily in keeping with early 20th century settings. 1 ruby is pinker than the others and may have been replaced - as you look at the necklace face on, it centres the cluster to the right hand side of the drop. The diamond is accompanied by a diamond certificate issued by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses on 6 September 1991, stating the diamond weight as 1.01 carat, colour I, clarity SI1. In our opinion the approximate qualities of the diamond are; colour I/J, clarity SI1/SI2. Gross weight 15.4 grams.  CR made 03.16.19.

An Early 20th Century Aquamarine and Pearl Pendant Necklace, a trefoil cluster comprising a half pearl within a border of rose cut diamonds, three marquise cut aquamarines around with a button pearl between each, and a pear cut aquamarine suspended from the base of the cluster, the whole attached to a fine trace link chain with two seed pearls at intervals on each side, chain length 39.5cm, drop length 4cm see illustration. .  The necklace is in good condition. It fastens with a bolt ring catch. There is a panel to the back of one of the aquamarines stamped '15CT' and in our opinion would test as such. The aquamarines appear to be original, and the item looks in good original condition. The aquamarines are fairly clean to the naked eye. Gross weight 7.4 grams. CR made 12.06.19, updated 10.07.19.

The ring was purchased in 2007 from Montpellier Antiques for £1,800. The ring is in good condition. It is hallmarked with sponsor's mark 'AP', Sheffield, 2000. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour H/I/J, clarity SI1/SI2. Gross weight 9.2 grams. CR made 10.06.19.

The ring is in good condition. It has a removable ring clip fitted. It is stamped '18CT' and 'PLAT' and in our opinion it would test as gold, with platinum claws. The ring is in good condition, one diamond is a modern round brilliant cut replacement, the shank has been resized. It is stamped '18CT', valued as gold. The synthetic sapphire measures 11.3mm x 8mm x 4.76mm approximately. Slight abrasion to the facet edges. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour J/K/L, clarity I1/I2/I3.
