The lip is pinched into a trefoil pattern, creating three directions from which the contents could be poured. The handle with a protrusion on top arching from lip to the flat shoulder. Deep shiny black glaze, covering the entire surface and the bottom of the base. Ca. 350-300 BC.A glazed wheel-thrown thistle mug with a petite tiered foot, a bulbous body that tapers to a wide neck, a flared rim, and an applied ring handle. The body is detailed with white painted chevrons, above bands of applied yellow paint, white dotted design between yellow, red, and white bands. The Gnathian style originated from Apulia, a region of Italy located along the southern coast. It consisted of a polychromic design applied onto a dark, varnished background. The primary colours used were red, white, and yellow although white soon became the dominant colour. Ca. 100-200 AD.A red stone intaglio engraved with a central tropaion, the war trophy flanked by two kneeling figures of captives. The intaglio is set in a beautiful gold finger ring composed of a tapering hoop, slightly rounded on the outside and flat inside. Tropaion was a victory monument built by ancient Greeks and Romans after the battle from the captured armour and weapons of the enemy from the battlefield. It would be a votive offering to a deity in thanksgiving for the victory.
