Lot 90

An extremely fine .577" 1856 pattern rifled percussion cavalry pistol carbine, the pistol 15½" overall, barrel 10" with 5 groove rifling and two folding leaf rearsights, the breech bearing Tower proof and ordnance viewer's and inspector's marks; lock engraved with crowned 'VR' and '1857' over 'Tower', and with ordnance viewer's and inspector's marks; nicely figured walnut fullstock, the butt deeply stamped with broad arrow and'WD' and with inspector's marks, the left side with stock maker's and assembler's names "J Smith" and "Hollis & Sheath", with regulation brass mounts, swivel ramrod, and lanyard ring, the butt having elongated trigger guard and butt cap tang slotted to take the walnut carbine stock, which is deeply stamped with broad arrow and 'WD', large crown over 'VR', inspector's mark and "Hollis & Sheath" and fitted with sling swivel. Very Good Working Order and almost as made, retaining virtually all original finish. Plate 24  Note: these were made for the Yeomanry with approximately 1200 only issued.

A good French M1822 light cavalry trooper's sword, curved, fullered blade 36", with narrow back fuller to centre section, with small crown/B in oval stamp at forte, marked Manufre Impale de Chatellerault Avril 1853 on backstrap, brass hilt, the oval guard with reinforced edges into knucklebow, with 2 sidebars, slightly forward sloping cap shaped pommel, brass wirebound ribbed leather grip, in its steel scabbard with single ring and 2 small stamps 'V' and 'C' in circles at the top. Good Condition, the blade retaining most original finish (small clamp mark on each side at forte, extreme edge of blade sharpened) Plate 18

GWO & C (dark patina to lock, russet finish to barrel, frizzen spring replaced). .

An 1803 pattern infantry field officer's sword, curved, fullered blade 28", with gilt scrolled panels at forte and "J J Runkel, Solingen" on backstrap, etched blued and gilt for half length with trophies and devices, and crowned 1801-16 Royal Arms with motto on one side and crowned GR cypher on the other, regulation gilt hilt, the guard pierced with 4 loops, the knuckelbow incorporating crowned GR cypher, flattened lion's head pommel, facetted backstrap with knot, in its leather (worn) scabbard with gilt locket frog stud and ring, middle band and ring, and chape. Good Condition, retaining approximately 75% blueing and gilding to blade and 75% gilding to hilt and mounts. Plate 18
