Paer refers to a diamond ring he has sold to his correspondent; VINCENT D´INDY (1851-1931) French Composer. WAGNER RICHARD: (1813-1883) German Composer. Exceptionally rare A.M.Q.S., `Richard Wagner´, one page, 4to, Vienna, 27th December 1862, inscription and annotations in German. Wagner has penned a 5 bars musical quotation, annotating Wotan to the heading, and adds voice texts beneath the musical notes. The text corresponds to Wotan recitativo in The Valkyrie, third act, stating `dieser Augen leuchtendes Paar, das oft ich lächeldn gekost´. Wagner adds beneath `See you Soon! Your tired and sleepless Richard Wagner´. Small professional repair to the verso, to the edges, otherwise G £8000-12000Wotan is the role of the God of battle and Ruler of the Gods, played by a bass-baritone, in the opera Die Walkure (The Valkyrie) (1870) by Richard Wagner. It is the second of the four music dramas that constitute Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung).
NEHRU JAWAHARLAL: (1889-1964) Indian Prime Minister 1947-64. T.L.S., Jawaharlal Nehru, one page, 4to, Allahabad, 28th October 1936, to Edward Thompson. Nehru explains to his correspondent that their letter has been received, adding, 'Any how I write to tell you that I shall be here from the 30th October to the 3rd November. When you reach Allahabad you will ring me up and we shall fix a meeting.' With minor foxing and two very small stains to the right edge, not affecting the text or signature, and signs of former mounting to verso. G £150-200Edward Thompson (1886-1946) British Scholar, Novelist, Historian and Translator. Thompson cultivated friendships with leaders from across the Indian political leadership, including Gandhi, Nehru and Iqbal. He was especially close to Nehru and the two remained in contact until Thompson's death.
