William Bowyer Smijth M.P. Marylebone Cricket Club 1845-1848. A carved oak E.P.S. mounted twin handled bowl with ceramic bowl liner inscribed to silver metal outer ring ‘From Wm Bowyer Smijth. 1881’. The oak bowl carved with an ivy leaf floral pattern with his family crest of an Heraldic Tiger in shield to side. The ceramic liner with stapled crack otherwise in good condition. 12.5” diameter, 5” tall Bowyer Smijth contested South Essex in the 1847 general election unsuccessfully. He entered the British House of Commons in 1852, sitting as a Member of Parliament (MP) until 1857. Bowyer Smijth had a commission as lieutenant in the 19th Essex Rifle Volunteers and served as a Deputy Lieutenant and a Justice of the Peace. He died in 1883
