Lot 377

dating: 1620 - 1640 provenance: Germany, Straight blade of hexagonal section, with pitting and some spikes at the tip, the forte featuring a mark on both sides depicting a well visible King's head and remains of the motto 'SOLI DEO GLORIA' (not clearly legible). Iron hilt. The two solid valves with a rhombus decoration and open-works linked by a joining element at the ring-guards and on the quillon guards. Right quillons with counter-curved and buttoned ends on the blade. Grip with moor's heads and iron wire binding (later?). 'Soli Deo Gloria' is one of the five Sola (fundamental principles) of the Protestant reform. Interesting item, maybe dating back to the Thirty Years' War. length 109,5 cm.

dating: circa 1600 provenance: North Italy, Straight, double-edged blade, clean, ribbed at the center, provided with fuller at the forte featuring the writing 'NON TI FIDARE (not clearly legible) DI ME / SEL COR TI MANCHA' (Do not trust me / if you have no heart). Ricasso with flat sides, both marked 'FEDERICO' and with a crowned tower. Fine, iron hilt with guard and ring guard, the surface with transversal fullers and thin gilt grooves in the middle (the gilding probably refreshed), inside the fuller an ellipsis with a short, grooved, gilt segment. The same decoration is also on both sides of the hilt. Ring-guard with joining quillon, parry quillon curved downwards. The counter-guard with smooth surface and ramified into three elements joint on the arms of the hilt. Grip with iron thread and wire binding, moor's heads with iron wire binding. Pommel with longitudinal fullers and floral engravings divided by gilt grooves, probably replaced. The button in a separate element. length 116 cm.

On the right side remains of engravings with a cross, other decorations, remains of a writing ('...M'), a Maltese cross mark at the base; on the left side a similar decoration, in slightly better condition (the letters 'AHNM' are visible), remains of gilding and two Maltese cross marks. Iron hilt with two rings and no valve. Two loop guards and one joining arm. The back with loop for the thumb. Grip covered with metallic wire binding (of a later period?) and with brass ring nuts. dating: 18th Century provenance: China, Iron, almost cylindrical-shaped structure. Two-stage, 30 mm cal. barrels. The first worked with sections shaped as a truncated cone and alterned rings. The small vent on the top is inside a hollowed base (probably with remains of a cover pan). Cylindrical trunnions in the middle. The second order is cylindrical and reinforced with a sequence of eleven thick rings. Finally the nozzle, with big bell-mouthed moulded muzzle. Behind the breech, there is a long pommel shaped as a truncated cone, reinforced by a ring at the border. See a similar one in the Royal Armouries Collection (Object Number XIX.114), dated late XVIII Century. length total 146 cm.

The pan cover carved with a mask and with the monogram 'BSP' at the inside. Slightly sculpted, wooden stocks (small damages and antique restorations on one pistol) with iron mounts carved with busts and floral motifs, the counter plates with piercings and provided with belt hook. dating: 17th Century provenance: Germany, The body consisting of two voluminous triangular-shaped plates made of deer horn. One side featuring a beautiful and finely engraved hunting scene, in which three men on horseback chase a deer and a wild boar, armed with spears and bows and followed by their dogs. The scene is surrounded by a thick double frame engraved with leaves and intertwined bands. The opposite side, instead, features an allegory of equal beauty in which four divinities, or nymphs, with their hair intertwined with flowers, ears of wheat and vine leaves hold their hands, one of them is completely naked and is feeding a small bird with grapes. The chariot is pulled by five birds of prey (griffins?) and is led by a winged putto. To complete the scene a dog and a cupid shooting an arrow. Also this scene is surrounded by the same engraved frame. At the base of the fuse a petal carving. The fuse itself is engraved with leaves and has a truncated-cone shape. To support the sides two iron bands equipped with numerous loops. On the wider side, the edge is crossed in the center by a thick tube made of horn sectors (a couple of elements probably replaced) engraved with leaves en suite with the fuse. The wider side also features remains of the antique black Moroccan-leather covering with decorations and remains of purple velvet lining. On the upper side is a large spiral-worked iron loop and a ring. Remains of ancient cords and tassels. Very rare. Both engravings of high quality. dimensions 48 x 30,5 x 10 cm.

Interesting mechanism with rotating ring nut behind the cylinder: to reload the revolver it is necessary to correctly align the ring nut, it is then possible to extract a segment and thus remove the used cartridge cases through the extractor (missing locking mechanism) and load new ones. 95% original browning. Very well preserved metals. Checkered, wooden grip, with holding tab at the back. Trigger guard and grip engraved en suite. length 30,5 cm.
