Resized to the shank and hallmarks look compressed. Pearl with good lustre and pinkish-silver overtones, untested. The diamonds bright and lively. Gross weight 2.4gm.

Three gem-set rings, comprising a triangular ruby-set ring, an aquamarine and diamond cluster ring, both with applied ropetwist decoration, together with a diamond-set watch ring with pierced hinged cover, ring sizes K - N. £500-£600 --- Condition Report General light surface wear commensurate with age and use. The ring watch dial cover has lost tension at the close. The ring sizes are approximate due to the shape of the bands. Viewing is strongly advised on group lots. Gross weight 21.4gm.

Lot 63

A Medieval gold emerald stirrup ring, early 14th century, the hoop of D-shaped cross-section, the yellow gold with raised triangular-shaped bezel centred at the apex with the original oval cabochon-shaped emerald, the bezel with angled shoulders and recessed sides, the exterior to either side of the bezel with three raised grapes or mulberries and decorated with pellets and a stem, diameter 20mm, width 1.5mm. £1,600-£2,000 --- Provenance: This ring was found by a metal detectorist in Cambridgeshire in 2022. It has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database ref: CAM-1BD43B and disclaimed under the Treasure Act. Several comparables are noted on the PAS database: ref: LANCUM-7B7DAD is very similar in style and decoration, and DUR-688B7B, also with the three raised fruits to either side of the bezel. Emeralds were thought to protect against gout and epilepsy and also to increase riches. Grapes are symbolic of rebirth, whilst the mulberry tree was the emblem of the Dukes of Norfolk. Condition Report The emerald has a small triangular dip in the centre, but no cracks are visible. There is no apparent wear to the ring, with all the details clear. Weight 1.37gm.

A 19th century gold memorial ring, with recessed black enamel detail and gold lettering to the exterior ‘IN ME MO RY OF’ with symmetrically carved scrolled foliate motifs between, the interior engraved in italics “Charles Lord Tenterden died 4 Nov, 1832 aged 70”, hallmarked for 18ct gold, date letter for 1832, ring size O. £400-£600 --- Provenance: This ring was found by a metal detectorist. The ring is in memory of Charles Abbott, 1st Baron Tenterden PC (1762-1832). A barrister and judge, he served as Lord Chief Justice of the King’s Bench between 1818 and 1832. He was appointed to the peerage in 1827. Condition Report Very fine, but with some black enamel loss.

Bradfield, in 1086, had a recorded population of just 22 households. This ring has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, ref: ESS-B9A945, and disclaimed as Treasure, ref: 2022-T770. Comparables on the PAS database include NMS-ED74C3; DUR-4301BA; LIN-A1E7B8. Condition Report The ring is extremely fine with very light surface wear. Ring size very approximate. Gross weight 1.2gm.

A late 17th century gold posy ring, circa 1680-1700, the broad convex band with plain exterior, the interior inscribed ‘Feare god love me’ in spaced italics script, band width 6mm, ring size O. £600-£800 --- Provenance: This ring was discovered by a metal detectorist in Somerset in 2022. It has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, ref: SOM-752CD5, and disclaimed as Treasure, ref: 2022-T231. Condition Report The exterior of the band shows general wear and scuffs, with a couple of nicks to the band edge. The inscription is quite crisp and legible. The band appears to have been resized (reduced) prior to deposition. Band width 6mm. Weight 8.4gm.

A 9ct gold and amethyst single stone ring, 1972, the oval-cut amethyst claw-set to a beaded mount and scrollwork shoulders, London hallmark, ring size H½. £100-£150 --- Condition Report General light surface wear commensurate with age and use. The amethysts is a deep purple colour with very good transparency and even saturation. The stone appears to be slightly loose in it’s settings and would benefit form a a re-tip. Evidence of resizing and some porosity to the shank. Gross weight 5gm.
