PHILADA", walnut butt with steel mounts including hinged butt trap, and with saddle bar and ring on the left side. GWO & C (lightly worn overall). An underlever slides the barrel forwards allowing the barrel to tip downwards for loading. £500-800

McLeod, 4th Reg Light Cavalry Lancers) VF, the hook replaced and now fitted with swivel ring suspender, 4 prong buckle strip and top pin to riband. £600-650 Note: The 4th Light Cavalry (Lancers) (part of the 4th Brigade of Cavalry under Brigadier Scott CB) were commanded by Major Mactier. General Sir Hugh Gough, in his despatch wrote of the battle "so desperate was the resistance, that very few of the defenders of this very strong position escaped..." and "I regret to say, that our loss has been very severe, infinitely beyond what I calculated on; indeed I did not do justice to the gallantry of my opponents.."

An English Civil War period horseman's sword, straight double edged blade 32" with central wide fuller, marked "SAHAGUM" and orb and heart mark on both sides, the hilt having slightly flattened spherical pommel, bulbous centre to knucklebow, scrolled side guards, thumb ring and side rings with pierced plates, the grip bound with copper wire and strips, and with single Turk's head (the other missing). The firm exhibited and won medals at the 1878 Paris Exhibition, the 1894 Antwerp Exhibition, the Paris Exhibition of 1900 and were awarded the first of their royal warrants in 1901.Condition report: Probably re-polished.
