Robert Clidsdale is recorded in Smith, John OLD SCOTTISH CLOCKMAKERS 1453-1850 as being apprenticed to Alexander Brand in 1738, he gained his Freedom in 1754 and worked presumably until his death in 1786.

Kember, Shaw to lower edge, the angles with bird and urn cast spandrels, the case with shallow box upstand, ogee cornice and foliate blind fret to frieze above three quarter columns to hood, rectangular caddy moulded door to trunk, on plinth base with moulded skirt, 210cm (82.5ins) high. Josiah Kember is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as working in Shaw 1771-7.
