A large Indian 10 bore matchlock gun, torador, 72” overall, barrel 51” with flared and engraved muzzle, the breech with baluster ring, block rearsight and engraved inscription, fullstocked with nine brass wire barrel bands, plain steel sideplates, the butt fluted behind the breech and stamped “ S.L.K. 217”, with original iron ramrod. An unusually long and heavy flintlock trade gun by Woolley Sargant & Fairfax, c 1830, 75” overall, octagonal barrel 58” with B’ham proofs, slightly rounded lock with ring neck cock, the plate stamped “Woolley Sargant & Fairfax” and “Warranted”, the beech wood fullstock having brass military style mounts including scrolled trigger guard, wavy sideplate, 4 ramrod pipes and oval escutcheon, with original steel ramrod. GWO & basically GC (the steel parts rusted overall, some worm to fore end). An untouched piece with good age patina. Plate 10
Union Nationale des Societes de Tir de France, cast bronze plaque, signed H. Dubois, for Barbedienne. Uniface, the design shows winged figure carrying a naked warrior away from the battle ground, a burning town behind. “Honneur” and “Patrie” either side, top ring mount, 253mm, c 1894 GVF. A 2 part medallion “La Bretagne” in bronze, obverse lady in traditional dress sits beside a window, reverse Breton Cross Calvary, by Dufresne and issued by S.A.M.F. Each side is uniface bar four figure “4” raised to one side and incuse to the other which, when aligned show the medallion in usual style. VF
An Arab 20 bore flintlock jezail, 63” overall, slender barrel 49” with traces of decoration at the breech, the flat lock with ring neck cock and simple decoration, pale wood stock, the short fore end with brass barrel band and bound with brass wire, the butt with panels of carved decoration. QGC (heavily worn overall)
A Brazilian cavalry trooper’s sword, c 1935, slightly curved, shallow fullered blade 32½”, with maker’s “Marca Registrada” AEC in triangle at forte, solid semi basket steel guard incorporating, in a circle, the arms of the republic with “Estados Unides do Brasil 15 de Nov de 1889” (the date of its foundation), plain pommel, dark chequered composition grips, in its scabbard with loop and single ring. VGC, and evidently unissued, retaining much original blackened finish and store’s grease.
