A 19th century Italian cavalry trooper’s sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 34”, sheet steel half basket guard with turn over inner edge and large tear shaped cut out slot, cap shaped pommel, wirebound leather grip (replaced), in its steel scabbard with single ring. Basically GC (some wear, old black paint to hilt and scabbard)
A scarce de-activated 6 shot .38” Hills Patent DA revolver, 8” overall, octagonal barrel 3½” marked on one side “Hill’s Patent No 313” and on the other side “The Stanley”, the frame stamped “Joint Patents/ Stan..n & Co/ C 53970” (Stanton & Co), B’ham proved, the barrel and cylinder hinge upwards for ejecting and loading, with one piece chequered walnut grip and lanyard ring, the metalwork with remains of worn nickel plating overall. A US Civil War period .50” Sharps Patent “New Model 1863” falling block underlever breech loading percussion carbine, 39” overall, barrel 22”, number 74894, the lock marked “C Sharps Pat/ Oct 25th 1852” and with Lawrence patent pellet primer, halfstocked with steel mounts including patch box in the butt, dome headed nail decoration, and saddle bar with ring. WO & QGC (the metalwork has been pitted overall and cleaned) Plate 10
A George V courtsword, slender hollow triangular section blade 32” etched with crowned GVR cypher and wreath in scrolled and foliate panels, facetted and studded steel hilt with turn down shell guard, small pas d’ane rings, crossguard and knucklebow, urn shaped pommel with prominent stud, slightly swollen panelled grip, in its steel mounted leather scabbard, the locket with single ring, and chape. Very Good Condition. Plate 64
The Honourable East India Company’s medal for Seringapatam, 1799, Soho Mint silver issue, diameter 48mm. Originally pierced and now fitted in a contemporary frame and lunettes below a swivel ring suspender. The frame engraved in script “Lieut. James Donald 94th S.B. Regt”, the riband with a 4 prong brooch. Good Extremely Fine, in a red leather covered presentation case commensurate with age (1 small area of lid damaged by sealing wax). Plate 2 Note: James Donald, born 12th July 1775, his first appointment into the services was at the age 19¾ on 16th April 1795 as Ensign 67th Foot. On 3rd June 1795 he was appointed Lieutenant Scots Brigade (94th Foot); Captain 6th February 1805; Paymaster Half Pay 25th December 1809. Wounded at the Battle of Argaum 29th November 1803.
A rare .73” first model Victoria cavalry carbine, 42” overall, twist barrel 26” with Tower proofs and ordnance inspector’s marks, standing rearsight, break off breech and swivel ramrod; back action lock engraved with crown over “VR/Tower 1838” (the first and possibly only year of production), and with traces of officially removed safety bolt; the heavily varnished walnut fullstock stamped on the left side of the butt with broad arrow over “WD” (post 1855), on the right side “I.C.R” (1st class reserve), and on the underside “J & W Field” (stockmakers), and with saddle bar and ring, the rear end of which screws directly into the stock; brass mounts include combined fore end plate and ramrod pipe, and trigger guard with scroll; every individual part, even the screw heads and the saddle ring, bearing the serial number “17”. A very good .65” East India Government percussion holster pistol, 14” overall, smooth bore barrel 8” with ordnance proof and Birmingham inspector’s marks; lock stamped with crown over broad arrow and “EIG” and “Birmingham 1871”; dark walnut fullstock stamped on the left side “W Tranter” (stockmaker) and with EIG Birmingham storekeeper’s mark; with regulation brass mounts, lanyard ring, and swivel ramrod. In Very Good Working Order and Unissued Condition, the bore bright, barrel with original blued finish, lock with colour hardened finish. Plate 78
