EMILY DAVISON AT THE DERBY - a 32 line letter written by 'Len', the son of one of the servants at 'Greenhill', Upham, Southampton, to his parents, giving his eye witness account at the Epsom Derby, 4th June, 1913, when Emily Davison walked onto the course in front of King George V's horse 'Anmer'; the letter undated, in its original envelope postmarked Epsom, June 8, 1913, & 2 other letters relating to the writer & his family. * ' I dare say you have read about that suffragette who stopped the King's horse, well I was standing within fifteen yards of that when it happened. Several ladies fainted and the crowd would probably have linched (sic) her if the mounted police had not formed a ring . . . ' Emily Wilding Davison, suffragette & militant fighter of her cause, died from her injuries 8th June, 1913
