This is the only way bids will be accepted on this lot.A Chinese archaistic bronze wine vessel (Zun) in the Shang Dynasty style, of cylindrical form with four heavy notched flanges on the sides, boldly cast around the slightly bulging waist with two taotie masks with rounded eyes, the splayed foot decorated with further taotie masks, upright horns and hooked jaws above the foot ring, the flaring neck with four upright blades filled with upward-looking kui dragons, all reserved on a dense leiwen ground, the surface with an olive-green patina with light malachite, azurite and ferrous encrustation, an inscription to the interior of the vessel, 9.75ins (25cm) diameter x 13ins (32.8cm) highProvenance: Capt. Harry L. Evans, RM, (1831-1883) and thence by descent to the present owner. Captain Evans was part of the Royal Marine contingent serving aboard H.M.S. James Wyatt in 1854, and took part in the capture of Canton in 1857 and the subsequent expedition to White Cloud (Baiyun) Mountains. He was slightly wounded in the attack upon the Pei-ho forts in 1859 and was present at the capture of the Taku Forts in 1860. Lenzkirch, a large walnut bracket clock: the eight-day duration, spring-driven movement chiming the quarters on four gongs and the hour on a further gong, the backplate stamped with the trademark for Lenzkirch, being the 1 Million stamp, along with the serial number 403511, the six-inch arched brass dial having a silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, with fleur-de-lys half-hour markings, the arch having two silvered subsidiary dials for slow/fast regulation and chime/silent setting, with cast-brass spandrels, the breakarch walnut case having applied fluted flat columns to the front, cast-brass finials to the four corners, brass sound frets to the sides and standing on brass bun feet, height 40cms.* Biography Lenzkirch were established in 1851 in the Black Forest area of Germany by Eduard Hauser after he'd served apprenticeships around Europe. They gained a reputation for the high quality of their movements.

Penford, London, the matted dial centre having a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture with engraved decoration to the surround and ringed winding holes, the cast-brass 'cherub-head' spandrels to the four corners having engraved floral decoration between and decorative blued steel hands, the walnut veneered case with panelled marquetry decoration to the trunk door and base, with further marquetry inlay to the trunk and a lenticle glass to the door, the flat-top hood with three-quarter pillars having cast brass capitals and marquetry inlay to the door, the base with a later applied plinth, with a pair of brass cased weights, height 213cms.* Biography Joshua Penford (sometime Penfold) is recorded as being apprenticed in London in 1684 to the Quaker clockmaker Francis Stamper 'At the Golden Ball in Lombard Street', becoming a Freeman of the Clockmakers Company in 1695.
John Sampson, Penzance, a mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell, the 11½ inch arched brass dial having a silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic five-minute markings, with the maker's name John Sampson, Penzance either side of VI o'clock, the matted centre having a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture with engraved decorative surround, with decorative blued steel hands and cast-brass 'urn' spandrels to the four corners, the arch having a silvered boss engraved with a Ho-ho bird above the latin words Tempus Fugit, with cast-brass 'dolphin' spandrels to each side, the mahogany case with inlaid stringing to the hood, trunk and base, the hood having a swan-neck pediment with brass paterae and ebonised fluted columns with cast-brass capitals, all standing on bracket feet, height 206cms.* Biography John Sampson is recorded as working in Penzance from at least April 1752 when he advertised for 'any young man bred in the clock and watchmaking way wanting employment'.
