Lot 1322

Diette-Hour, France, a large carriage clock: the eight-day duration timepiece movement having a lever escapement, the backplate stamped with the maker's initials and serial number DH 204, the silvered chapter ring having black Arabic numerals and blued steel spade hands, the centre inset with the visible lever escapement with compensated balance, the brass case having an inset barometer to the top, with barley twist columns, filigree frieze to top and lower and matching handle to the top, height 21.5cm handle up, 18cm handle down.* Biography Charles Hour had premises at 7, Rue Saint-Anastase, Paris, being an important maker who teamed up with Diette at the end of the 19th century, with their trademark being the initials DH, with additional workshops at Marche des Enfants Rouge.

Lot 1323

Henri Jacot, Paris, a brass carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a silvered platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a gong with the backplate stamped with the trademark for Henri Jacot of Paris, a parrot on a perch, along with the serial number 11387, which would give a date of manufacture for circa 1898, the rear of the dial plate stamped with the Jacot poinçon showing the various exposition awards including Paris 1889, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, blued steel spade hands and typical Jacot inner ring, the brass Corniche case having a three-bale handle, with the original numbered key, height 18cm handle up, 15cm handle down. * Biography Henri Jacot, born Fontaines, Switzerland in 1797, was a pioneer of carriage clock manufacture with his Paris workshop at 31, Rue Montmorency (previously numbered 25)opening in 1820. Following his death in 1868 he was succeeded by his nephew Albert Jacot who went on to commercialise the business and it was during this period that this clock was made.
