A Japy Freres 8-day cloisonne cased mantle clock of pagoda form with lion dog finial and peony pierced brackets the blu nouveau ground with gilt brass "Roman" chapter ring, the movement chiming the hours and half hour as a passing strike on a single bell. 21 cm wide x 38 cm highBoth trains wind freely and the pendulum escapes the movement as expected, however I can only get the chime to mark the hours as a passing strike at the hour rather than a full peel, the fact that the clock winds and runs is NO gauruntee of accuracy or reliability. The case enamel is in good order only showing surface pitting from the manufacture of the enamelling rather than damage, the gilding is still thick and lustrous. The applied chapter ring is slightly loose on it dial feet and could be tightened up.The key that came with the clock is too big and a smaller key is required to wind the clock effectively.I am unsure if this would have had a bevelled glass front lens, the bezel has a slight rebate but this may just be a decorative feature to give the bezel the appearance of a thicker gauge material than it is.
