Napoleonic War Waterloo Medal Awarded to George Barker 2nd Batt Grenad Guards, steel clip ring replaced with suspension bar. Medal roll of 8 September 1815 indicates that Private George Barker of Sir Ulysses Burgh's Company 2nd Batallion Grenadier Guards, was entitled to the Waterloo Medal. During The Battle of Waterloo on 18 June the majority of the 2nd Battalion spent the day under French artillery fire on the ridge of Mount St Jean. The Guards suffered terrible casualties but were able to play a pivotal role towards the end of the battle when they drove back a desperate assault made by Napoleon's elite Imperial Guard. On the morning of the battle the 2nd Battalion comprised 35 Officers and 919 other ranks, the roll call that evening showed 4 officers and 78 other ranks as killed and 8 officers and 351 other ranks as wounded.
