*WWI Flying Log Book. Lt. N. Midgely R.F.C./R.A.F. First flight at Tadcaster 17.9.1917 on R.E. 7-2185 instructor Capt. Whittaker, time in air 10 mins, initial training continued on R.E.7 aircraft with Whittaker and Lt. Buckall as instructors at No. 20 Training Squadron R.F.C., first solo on Farman `Longhorn` 6693 on 19.10.1917 after 7 hrs 45 mins, training unit then No. 14 Training Squadron Grantham (Spittlegate), practice formation flying begins 31.10.1917, entry for 8.11.1917 reads `Forced landing, got lost and had to ring up `drome`, then on 18.11.1917 flying B.E.2c A2844 during cross country `Wrong course taken, landed at Newark`, entries in log confirmed by D. Hall, Capt. O.C. C Flight No. 20 Training Squadron, flying continues on D.H.6 and R.E.8, various changes in Flight Commanders, 21.1.18 entry reads `Engine went dead, forced landing Spittlegate` (R.E.8 4224), a/c returned same day to Harlaxton, collected replacement D.H.6. 2633, training continues with photo and bombing sorties with various units, after total of 45 hrs 35 mins solo posted overseas with first flight on R.E.8 4557 on 9.3.1918, operational training continues, 17.3.1918 flying B.3405 - `Crashed on landing`, next day `Several EA, hit by `a.a.``, then 27.3.1918 flying B3405 `Bomb raid over Albert, had to return early owing to archie through petrol tank`, operations continue over Western Front, 12.4.1918 flying 6480 entry reads `Shot at Hun Sausage, (Observation Balloon), attacked by 8 F.E.A., running flight for 3 miles - lucky!!`, more hectic ops flying - `Apl 17th D.S.O. awarded` on 20.4.1918 - `Engine very rough, nearly landed in trenches, engine just picked up when flattening out`, ops continue, survival remarkable, on 3.5.1918 when flying 4827 at 7000 - `Vis fair, scrap with 6 huns, gun jammed, tank hit by a.a. front quiet`, numerous `action` entries when on photo reconnaissance missions and observing artillery fire from air, pace of ops continues, 13-16-1918 with Lt. Griffith as observer `Scrap with 6 and later 13 F.E.A.`, Midgley a real survivor, photo sorties continue with various observers until overseas tour ends 28.6.1918 after 243 operational hours flown. Returns to Grantham, then Margate flying Armstrong-Whitworth and R.E.8 a/c as instructor, then retraining at No. 2 School of Observers, Margate, many engine failures recorded when flying with pupil observers, gunnery and photo practice, aerial combat sorties with camera gun, entry for Nov. 2nd 1918 when flying D6829 records `Engine Test, engine cut out, forced landing and crashed`, a similar incident on Nov. 7th flying C 2346, end of war not recorded, continued flying now on Avro 504 last entry 11.1.1919 on Avro 504 H 1922, log signed off `A. Soldier`s Farewell`. Total hours 426, aircraft types included Maurice Farman Short Horn` D.H.6., R.E. 8 90 h.p, A.W., Bristol Fighter and Avro, inside rear cover is written a list of lost comrades on Western Front, together with a pilot`s flying logbook to Lieutenant Midgley, ..... and a Field Service Pocket Book, dated 1914 (1917 reprint), 290 pp. text, fold-out diagrams, inscribed to `Cadet Harvey F. Flight No. 4 Squadron 10TTW St. Leonards on Sea, Hastings`, a silver cigarette case, Mappin & Webb, London ... inscribed on the gilded interior, `To Jack from some of his old `A` Flight pals and Bits, No. 4 Squadron R.F.C. December 1917`, the cover applied with Royal Flying Corps Pilot`s Wings and engraved with eight signatures of other colleagues, 4 5/8in (11.8cm) long, together with a pair of original cloth RFC pilot`s wings on RFC bullion blazer badge, rigging notes for the RE8 and three photographs (2)

*Focke-Wulf Fw.200 `Condor`. A file of original manufacturers`, copy press and other photographs of this elegant aircraft, known as the `Scourge of the Atlantic` the Fw.200 had a distinguished career in both civilian and military guise, images include Lufthansa aircraft, the Dania Airlines OY-DAM in model form, D-AETA `Westfalen`; D-AERE `Saarland`, D-ACON and others. Military machines illustrated include F8 + EH; SG + KS, KE + 1J; KE + 1W and other airframes, further images of damaged aircraft, crews, groundcrews and recovery operations of an Fw.200 lost in Norway in 1942 complete this lot, contained in a plastic folder, together with Focke-Wulf Fw. 190 series, a good collection of photographic images of this much respected fighter, dubbed the `Butcher Bird` the Fw.190 was a fine aircraft, loved by those that flew it and those that maintained it, this file of photographs covers the history of the type from the Fw.190 V-1 through the various marks to the final `Dora` series, included are fine air-to-air and ground images, many copies from private albums and collections, details of abandoned and damaged airframes, reproductions and similar interesting material, contained in a modern ring binder.
