The head and handle are connected by a stitched maroon leather strip, which gives some flexibility to the head area. Approximately 41cm length. Condition: generally good. Good overall colour and patina to the wood. Some old chipping to some of the ring turned decoration and pommel area, but there is no substantial damage.

A late Georgian / early Victorian cylinder shaped truncheon. Ebonised wood, painted with the Royal crown, Royal coat of arms, with another smaller coat of arms inset within the Royal arms. The name ‘Otley’ is painted below the arms, which would certainly refer to the West Yorkshire town. No further decoration except some small ring turning to one end. Approximately 40.5cm length. Condition: generally good. Some fading / rubbing to the painted decoration. Some knocks and contact marks to the entire length of the truncheon from service wear, but no apparent splits or repairs to the wood.

The head and handle are connected by a flexible stitched leather strip. The leather connecting strip has covering of red waxed cotton, which is liely an old repair. Approximately 41cm length. Condition: generally good. Good overall colour and patina, and normal signs of age and use. Small slight to connecting leather strip, and the addition of waxed twine as part of a repair. The knopped finial has a small age related shrinkage crack to the wood.
