Coated in a thick glaze with underglaze blue decoration of a phoenix standing in a garden, the rim decorated with various beribboned precious objects and floral motifs. Second half of the 16th century, c.1560 - 1580. 18.5cm diam.Very good overall condition with minor surface wear and a small ancient chip to the inner foot ring. There is no restoration or repair and the dish has a good ring to it when tapped.

Enamelled black four character seal mark, of hexagonal section, with ring handle, the waisted roof decorated with scrolling dragons chasing flaming pearls on a cloud and flower pattern ground, with pierced lattice panelled body decorated with cell and wicker pattern ground, with central open door, on pierced ruyi-shaped feet. 39cm highThe ring handle has been cracked and repaired with restored repair to the faceted ball support. With old lacquered repairs to five of the roof struts and one lacquered repair to corner of roof/cover, with old cracked and repaired damages to two struts. Two lacquered repairs to two feet, two other feet cracked across and restuck, another with hairline crack, lacking a door.
